World-renowned presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin to deliver  Robert D. Gries Keynote Lecture.

Free tickets are now available for the Cleveland Foundation Annual Meeting Presented by KeyBank, scheduled for June 8 in the State Theatre at Playhouse Square. The theme of this year’s meeting is “Inspiring Leadership,” honoring outstanding nonprofit partners and Cleveland Foundation donors that enhance the lives of Greater Clevelanders every day.

In this U.S. presidential election year, Doris Kearns Goodwin, world-renowned presidential historian and Pulitzer Prize-winning author, will deliver the annual Robert D. Gries Keynote Lecture at the event. Goodwin is the author of six critically acclaimed and New York Times best-selling books including her most recent, The Bully Pulpit: Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and the Golden Age of Journalism, and Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln. Team of Rivals formed the basis for Lincoln, a 2012 film that grossed $275 million at the box office and earned 12 Academy Award® nominations. Goodwin was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in history for No Ordinary Time: Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt: The Home Front in World War II, and is the author of best sellers Wait Till Next Year, Lyndon Johnson and the American Dream and The Fitzgeralds and the Kennedys, which was adapted into an award-winning five-part TV miniseries. She is well known for her appearances and commentary on multiple television networks, talk shows and documentaries.

“In this election year, there is no better expert than Doris Kearns Goodwin to inspire us with lessons of leadership that we can all emulate in our work in this community,” said KeyCorp Chairman and CEO Beth Mooney. “We look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of the Cleveland Foundation and its transformative impact throughout Greater Cleveland.”

Cleveland Foundation President and CEO Ronn Richard will provide annual State of the Community remarks in conversation with Dee Perry, host and producer of The Sound of Applause on 90.3 WCPN. The annual meeting will also include the presentation of the 2016 Homer C. Wadsworth Award, given annually to a local leader who demonstrates creativity, innovation, ingenuity, risk-taking, and good humor in a civic, volunteer, nonprofit, or public sector role. Last year, the foundation honored John Zitzner, president of Friends of Breakthrough Schools.

The meeting will begin promptly at 4 p.m., with a community reception to follow.
