Notes from Fusion
Orlando - Presented by Purposeful Planning Institute, the first Fusion Collaboration took place March 19-20 in Orlando. The theme was the “fusion” of the legal/technical with the value’s based interpersonal skills and the necessary collaboration of the different professions necessary to guide a family through planning. While attendance was not huge, the attendees were diverse and the conference delivered its promise.
Martin Shenkman gave a great keynote summary of the recent Heckerling, even noting that there was a tentative admission that wealth managers might be becoming more vital members of the planning team as we move to “basis” planning and away from estate tax savings in the current tax regime. There were a number of great breakouts that discussed everything from asset protection planning to working with widows. Intra-family communication, tough questions about family values and harmony all benefited from a multi-disciplinary approach and dialogue.
Every family deserves to have a team of aligned professionals to help them through the difficult decisions regarding the distribution of the family wealth. All assets, not just economic ones, need attention and thought. This group of professionals seemed uniquely equipped and attuned to this idea.
